About Justice Professor Joel Ngugi
An internationally renowned scholar and judge, Justice Prof Ngugi studied law at the University of Nairobi and holds an SJD from Harvard.  A pioneer of Third World Approaches to International Law, he held academic posts in the US before joining the Kenyan judiciary where he has been director of the Judiciary Academy, the preeminent judicial training institute in Africa. He currently sits in the Court of Appeal. In 2018, he was appointed by the Chief Justice to the chair of Kenya’s Taskforce on Alternative Justice Systems.
