Do Law: The University of Bristol Career Challenge
Have you ever thought about how the law affects your daily life or how human rights are embedded in law to protect us all? Have you even thought about law as a possible career? Our challenges will help develop your understanding of how law impacts every aspect of society and how you can play a role in influencing it to bring about change. They will also provide insight into the career paths possible with a law degree and what is needed to do well in the subject. Law is about the ability to read actively, summarise effectively… and be good at using evidence to put forward a good argument. Take time to find out more about each challenge before choosing the one that best suits your skills and interests. Good luck!
- Challenge 1: Street LawTake on the guise of an investigative journalist filing a report on stop and search. You believe the black community is still disproportionately targeted by police officers, but where's the evidence?
- Challenge 2: Homelessness lawYou represent a local authority and are concerned about homelessness. However, the criteria that determines who has a priority need for accommodation is confusing - and compounded by the housing crisis. What needs to change?
- Challenge 3: Human Rights LawYou work for an international human rights organisation. Your latest brief is tough. COVID-19 has impacted everyone so how can you help prisoners locked in their cells 24/7 and facing deteriorating conditions?
- Welcome from Careers AdvisorWatch the welcome to the challenge from Jo, our careers advisor. In it she'll answer any questions you might have about what careers are possible with a law degree - and the skills you might already have that could make law a good option for you.
