Why come to the University of Bristol?

"As Chancellor of the University of Bristol, and throughout my career, I have seen first-hand the power of international collaboration and what can be achieved when talented researchers share knowledge, vision, and space.
The recently relaunched International Research Partnerships portfolio here at Bristol provides a wide range of opportunities for academics from all disciplines to join our own world-leading scholars in the pursuit of knowledge, so we can work together towards solving some of the pressing challenges we face in the world today. I strongly encourage and welcome distinguished researchers from around the globe to come and collaborate with us, and urge our own researchers to capitalise on the fantastic opportunities available at Bristol for developing meaningful, impactful, and long-lasting international partnerships."

Sir Paul Nurse, Chancellor of the University of Bristol

Collaboration. It’s what turns world-leading research into world-changing results. That’s why we’re working hand-in-hand with our partners around the globe: improving health, alleviating poverty, preparing for natural hazards, uncovering the impacts of wars and migration, driving technological innovation, and much, much more.

The International Research Development team works to support and enhance these international collaborations through providing opportunities for world-leading researchers to visit and work with our own accomplished academics, bringing together great minds and visionary ideas. We support and encourage international partnerships with scholars from around the globe, encompassing all disciplines and striving to drive forward cutting-edge, excellent research through our collaborations.

As one of the UK’s top ten universities (QS World University Rankings 2024) we can offer visitors the opportunity to work with our world-leading scholars in state-of-the-art facilities, sharing ideas and expertise to tackle global challenges, help solve practical problems, and inspire future generations of researchers. The University of Bristol also boasts five University Research Institutes and seven Specialist Research Institutes, established in recognition of our research strengths and helping to cement our position among the world’s leading research-intensive universities.

Located in the heart of vibrant Bristol in the southwest of England there are also plenty of opportunities for visitors to experience the local culture, from watching a play at the famous Old Vic theatre to spotting Banksy murals on a street-art tour, and from enjoying a nice meal at the scenic harbourside to taking in some live music at one of the many venues across the city.
