Synopsis for seminar:
In this talk I draw on narratives and scholarly inquiry conducted by and with mathematics professors focused on improving mathematics teaching to highlight ways to conduct self-based study of HE mathematics teaching. We begin with examples from the long history of mathematicians as pedagogical leaders in HE mathematics teaching. We then build from these examples toward the use of self-based inquiry in HE mathematics teaching including methods used in such inquiry. We conclude with the generating of questions about HE mathematics teaching that can be addressed through self-based inquiry.
