MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) Seminar Series

Title: Genomic analysis of neurodegeneration

Abstract: Geneome wide associations have been enormously successful at identiying risk loci for the major neurodegenerative diseases. In my talk, I will discuss how their application to sub phenotypes (biomarkers) can help dissecting the disease pathogenesisis and the surprising data suggesting that rate of decline in disease has a different genetic architecture from disease risk  I will also discuss the data showing that risk lcoi for each disease are distinct but each point individually to failures in damage response mechanisms

Biography: John Hardy is the Chair of Molecular Biology of Neurological Disease at the UCL Institute of Neurology with over 23,000 citations. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to science, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2009.
