16 October 2024

ICEP research was well-represented in the cancer theme of the World Congress of Epidemiology.

Six people working in or affiliated with ICEP gave talks at the World Congress of Epidemiology, which was held in Cape Town, South Africa on 24-27 September 2024.

From the ICEP team:

  • Lucy Goudswaard spoke about “Dissecting the contribution of circulating proteins to multiple myeloma risk: a Mendelian randomization study”. See the slides
  • Jasmine Khouja spoke on behalf of Fernanda Morales Berstein about "Reassessing the link between adiposity and head and neck cancer: a Mendelian randomization study". See the slides
  • Jasmine also spoke about "Further exploring the independent effects of smoking and alcohol use on head and neck cancer: a multivariable Mendelian randomization study". See the slides
  • Emma Hazelwood spoke about“Adiposity distribution and risks of twelve obesity-related cancers: a Mendelian randomization analysis”. See the slides

Other ICEP-affiliated people also presented at the meeting:

  • Rebecca Squires spoke about "Using Mendelian randomization estimates to calculate the global burden of endometrial cancer attributable to overweight and obesity". See the slides
  • Tessa Bate spoke about "Investigating the association between genetically proxied immune checkpoint protein inhibition and cancer survival using Mendelian randomisation". See the slides
  • Ella Fryer spoke about "Investigating the causal effect of previously reported therapeutic agents for colorectal Ella Fryer cancer prevention: a Mendelian randomization analysis". See the slides
