AJ Birt, BA History; MA History, Bristol
The skills that I acquired from my undergraduate History degree were all sparked by curiosity which is crucial for my current MA degree in History. Taking a degree in the Humanities at Bristol, you are encouraged to think outside of the box, to reimagine the past, and to chase rabbit holes to their limit. Acting almost as a detective of the past fosters further skills, and enhances dedication, organisation, and creativity. You are the master of your work, with the increased independence offered throughout undergraduate study helping to develop invaluable professional skills. By the time you finish your degree, your ability for critical analysis and original thinking will be well-honed, and with a bit of creative thinking, perfectly applied to the broader world.
Studying my undergraduate degree helped me realise my passion for research. Being open to change and chasing my curiosity led to extracurricular work, such as a Heritage Researcher for 1625 Independent People, and acting as Editor-in-Chief for The Bristorian. Taking units that challenged me were also crucial for expanding my opportunities, revealing new interests and further developing analytical skills. My entire undergraduate experience aptly prepared me for my MA History study, with that curious drive never quashed, but cultivated.
