Health and Life Sciences Education Network

The Health and Life Sciences Education Network (HALSEN) was launched in 2025, building on the success of the previous Centre for Health Sciences Education and the Life Sciences Scholarship of Teaching and Learning group. HALSEN is a faculty-wide initiative, bridging the gap between school-level Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiatives and the many opportunities afforded by the central Bristol Institute of Teaching and Learning (BILT). By bringing together colleagues from a wide range of disciplines HALSEN promotes and supports innovation and excellence in education, creating opportunities for cross-school working, network-building, training and collaboration.

HALSEN comprises a Steering Group (chaired by the Academic Director for Teaching Excellence), and six Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The current SIGS can be found at the links below. In addition our Conference Team run the annual HALSEN conference (including the Unsung Hero Teaching Awards). Additionally, we are able to provide funding for education innovation and research through our Education Innovation Fund.
