Taking Part: Muslim Participation in Contemporary Governance

On 31 January 2013, the report ‘Taking Part: Muslim Participation in Contemporary Governance’ was launched at a public event at the Bishopsgate Institute in London.

The report launch was chaired by Tariq Modood and featured presentations of the main research findings by Therese O’Toole and Daniel Nilsson DeHanas, followed by responses from an expert panel of Dilwar Hussain, Humera Khan, and Maleiha Malik.

The full video and audio from the launch event are available below. You can also read the 'Taking Part' report (PDF, 3,139kB). The report provides the results of the largest research study to date on UK Muslim-government relations, including interviews with 112 key policymakers and Muslim civil society actors and local case studies in Birmingham, Leicester and Tower Hamlets, London. The ‘Taking Part’ report has public policy implications on a range of issues including inter-faith work, multiculturalism and countering extremism, some of which were discussed at the launch event.
