The Department of Civil Engineering congratulates Amy Menzel for winning the South West Women in Property Student Awards.
Amy’s winning presentation was titled “my time on site and what it taught me about the construction industry” which detailed her views on the environmental, economic and ethical sides of the industry. The panel of judges were extremely impressed, saying that her presentation was of a professional standard. They continued: Amy is "knowledgeable, mature, confident and extremely employable. She is a role model for others, smart, modest and engaging."
Amy said “being involved in the WiP Regional Student Awards has been an incredible and thoroughly enjoyable experience which has hugely benefited my interpersonal and professional skills. I have met so many inspiring women in the process, both professionals and other like-minded students with a passion for the built environment, which has been very encouraging as I move closer to entering the world of construction. I am delighted to have won the award and am very excited for the next part of what has already been an amazing journey.”
Amy and her parents attended the National Awards Dinner in Claridge's, London. The day also involved an interview and a mentoring session with the 14 other regional winners.
Dr Laura Dickinson, the Senior Tutor in Civil Engineering, who also attended the dinner with Amy said: "We are really proud of Amy. She is a real asset to our department. We are also proud to be involved with the Women in Property Initiative, which exists to create opportunities, expand knowledge and inspire change for women working in the property and construction industry."
