Bristol Conversations in Education - Margareta Matache - Anti-Roma racism: pillars and manifestations

This event is part of the School of Education's Bristol Conversations in Education research seminar series. These seminars are free and open to the public.

Co-hosted by the Race, Empire and Education Collective and Centre for Comparative and International Research in Education (CIRE)

Speaker: Dr Margareta Matache, Director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights’ Roma Program, Instructor at Harvard University

Moderator: Simina Dragos, PhD Candidate, University of Cambridge

The history of anti-Roma racism has rarely been considered in global conversations on race and racism.

In this session, I aim to: a) place the oppression and the racialization of Roma since the 1300s (and perhaps earlier) in the world’s history of race and racism; and b) discuss pillars and manifestations of anti-Roma racism.

If you are interested in more work and events like this please look at the Race, Empire and Education Collective website and have a look at other upcoming REE events.
