The Bristol Doctoral College is delighted to invite you to our PGR Welcome to Bristol event.

We think Bristol is a special place to do a research degree. It’s not just the culture of innovation, outstanding facilities and unique opportunities that will help you achieve your research ambitions — it’s also our rich and vibrant research community. 

This event is a chance to meet and celebrate the start of your research degree with your peers, and to find out about the opportunities available to you throughout your time at Bristol.

2:30 to 2:40 pm - Welcome performance by the Chinese Lion Dancing Society

2:40 to 2:50 pm - Welcome from Professor Harry Mellor, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Postgraduate Research)

2:50 to 2:55 pm - Gulnur Zulpukarova reprises their winning presentation from the Three Minute Thesis 2026 competition

2:55 to 3:50 pm - Exploring your PGR community activity, plus refreshments will be served

3:50 to 3:55 pm - Support for PGRs from Bristol SU, Sharan Khemlani, Postgraduate Education Officer

3:55 to 4 pm - Closing remarks Lucy Parnall, Head of the Bristol Doctoral College

4 to 4:30 pm - Drinks reception and support services fair, featuring stalls from University teams in the reception room
