PGR Clubs and Networks

The Bristol Doctoral College facilitates a number of different clubs and networks specifically for PGRs, which provide the space and support for groups to meet regularly and foster a sense of belonging throughout our PGR community.
Clubs are normally centred around a specific interest or hobby, whilst networks tend to focus on creating community around an identity group or protected characteristic. All upcoming meet-ups and events can be found on the PGR events calendar.
Below you can see details of the current clubs and networks which the BDC supports.
PGR Clubs
The PGR Board Game Club meets weekly in the PGR Hub Training Room (2.22), bringing postgraduate researchers together to enjoy games from the Hub's extensive collection.
Get creative with fellow PGRs at the monthly Craft Club. Whether you're working on a project of your own or learning a new skill like crochet or embroidery, it's a great opportunity to relax, chat, and make something new. Materials are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own. Sessions take place on the first Wednesday of each month.
Join fellow PGRs for regular film screenings, followed by time to chat, share your thoughts on the film, and catch up with other researchers. Have an idea for a film you would like to see? Fill in their film suggestion form.
Join fellow PGRs to learn and practise Traditional Chinese Calligraphy in a friendly, social setting. No experience is needed, and all materials are provided.
The PG Football Club are a large group of postgraduates who play both casual and competitive football together every weekend at Coombe Dingle. All footballing abilities are welcome.
If you're interested in joining, please reach out to Liang Qiao at liang.qiao@bristol.ac.uk
There are also some University staff clubs open to PGRs, such as staff football and yoga.
PGR Networks
The Neurodivergent PGR Network is a community group led by ND PGRs, for ND PGRs! We aim to create a space for connection, resource-sharing, and peer support. We alternate between meeting online and in person. Sign up for the mailing list for updates and the meeting schedule.
Regular meet-ups for mature PGR students are held at the PGR Hub in Senate House. This is a welcoming and supportive space to meet and connect with fellow mature PGRs, sharing the challenges and journey that being a mature student involves. Keep an eye out in the BDC Bulletin or check our events calendar to find out about future meetings.
The Black PGR Network is a student-led network created in 2024-25, which runs events for Black PGRs at Bristol. Keep an eye out in the Bulletin or email the Network to find out more: uob-blackpgrnetwork@bristol.ac.uk
The Be More Empowered for Success PGR Network offers a range of social and academic opportunities for home Black, Asian and minority ethnic PGR students.
The Parents and Carers Network is an informal network for staff and PGRs with caring responsibilities.
Events for trans and non-binary PGR students are held at the PGR Hub in Senate House, including drinks events and coffee gatherings. Upcoming meet-ups can be found in the PGR events calendar.
