The new government faces the challenge of raising educational standards in the face of at best static budgets. Three articles in the latest issue of Research in Public Policy (published by the Centre for Market and Public Organisation, CMPO) provide evidence on the impact of school choice, of closing failing schools and of allowing new schools to enter the educational marketplace – as with the proposed ‘free schools.
Also in this issue, new research is finding compelling evidence that the benefits of investments in foetal and early childhood health extend into adulthood and even – through mothers – into the next generation.
