The award is presented to individuals who have made significant original contributions to the field of organic chemistry in its broadest sense. Alongside being presented with the award, Professor Aggarwal will receive ¥100,000 and be invited to Nagoya for a special symposium.
The prize was first established in 1995 and the list of previous winners includes five Nobel laureates. On finding out he would receive the award, Professor Aggarwal said it was 'extremely humbling' to be associated with such giants of the field.
