Campus Division Statement of Intent

This policy sets out how Campus Division will approach and discharge its duties for the management of health, safety, wellbeing and quality.

Statement

This Statement of Intent supports and aligns with the University of Bristol Group Health and Safety Policy. This policy remains the overarching corporate policy and sets the University’s legal and strategic direction.

Campus Division is committed to delivering services that meet applicable requirements and enhance stakeholder satisfaction, while providing safe and healthy working conditions, preventing work-related injury and ill health, ensuring consultation and participation of workers and their representatives, fulfilling compliance obligations, and continually improving the effectiveness of its integrated management system.

The Chief Property Officer is accountable for ensuring that Campus Division fulfils its duties as landlord and service provider across the University estate. This includes the safe design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure and associated services, and the effective management of contractor and construction activities.

Campus Division operates an integrated management system aligned to ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management). This system:

  • Provides visible leadership and clear accountability for health, safety and quality across all Campus activities.
  • Identifies, assesses and manages hazards and risks associated with the estate. This includes statutory compliance, building safety, contractor management and CDM duties.
  • Ensures that roles, responsibilities and arrangements are clearly defined and understood.
  • Provides competent advice, suitable and sufficient training, and support to enable staff to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
  • Engages with staff, contractors and stakeholders to promote a positive and proactive safety culture.
  • Provides a framework for setting our organisational objectives.
  • Monitors performance, undertakes assurance activities and acts on findings to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that appropriate resources, systems and controls are in place to meet legal requirements and recognised best practice.

All staff and contractors working within Campus Division are expected to take responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others. They are also expected to work in accordance with University policies, Campus procedures and safe systems of work.

This Statement of Intent is supported by Campus Division Integrated Management System (IMS). This sets out the detailed arrangements, procedures and controls required to manage health,  safety and quality in practice.
