Two new £20,000 funding prizes for translational research

18 November 2024

The University of Bristol is excited to announce Research to Reward, a new pitch-style funding competition offering two £20,000 prizes to advance innovative translational research.

Opening for applications on 26 November, 2024, Research to Reward aims to encourage University of Bristol researchers with innovative ideas to move towards real-world impact through commercialisation and impact at scale. This scheme provides a unique opportunity for female and non-binary early/mid-career researchers at the University to explore the translational and commercial potential of their research. Two funding prizes of up to £20,000 each will be available; Judge's Choice, as selected by our expert panel, and People's Choice, voted for by the audience.

Beyond the funding prize, ongoing commercialisation support will be available from the University's Research Commercialisation team. All finalists will also receive bespoke pitch training on top of a year’s access to SETsquared entrepreneurship resources. With this support, researchers will have the opportunity to develop both the translational aspects of their projects and their entrepreneurial skills.

Research to Reward will launch with a seminar and Q&A session on 26 November. The seminar will provide more information about the scheme and how to write a strong application and answer any questions you may have. Attendees will also hear from Professor Michele Barbour, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise & Innovation and founder of University of Bristol spinout Pertinax Pharma. Michele will share insights from her journey as a female founder and offer advice on research with commercial impact.

Prospective applicants can sign up here to attend the seminar.

The 2024/25 scheme will culminate with a live pitch event on 6 March 2025, where the finalists will pitch their project proposals, and the prizes will be awarded. More information and updates will be shared as the event approaches.

University staff can access further details on the scheme, including how to apply, on the Research to Reward Sharepoint.
