Reality Emulator

Exploring alternative futures and driving sociotechnical innovation on an unprecedented scale.

The Reality Emulator is one part of our suite of  globally unique facilities co-designed with input from researchers, collaborators and communities. This ethos of co-creation underpins BDFI’s driving ambition in developing these facilities – providing a space for iteration, the development of emulation experiences and interdisciplinary problem-solving related to digital technologies.

Whether you need to create a data-driven simulation of a biological process, a digital twin of a wind turbine, or a 3D rendering of the future university campus for public engagement, our entire set up is geared towards helping you fully explore the revolutionary potential of immersive models. This includes addressing challenges associated with technical innovation, social and cultural change, commercial models, sustainability, security, digital ethics, policy and legislation, and more – all supported by a comprehensive set of tools and technical expertise.

The facility includes two main components: the VR-enabled ‘CAVE’ and the Data Centre. The former is equipped with state-of-the-art extended reality visualisation capabilities, while the latter contains parallel computing capabilities, managed security services and 5G network connectivity. We welcome a fully modular use of facilities, meaning that you are free to choose the combination of equipment and staff support that meets your needs.
