Vaughan Williams: Symphony No.5

First performed under wartime restrictions at the 1943 Proms, Vaughan Williams's serene masterpiece is based on music from his, then unfinished, opera The Pilgrim's Progress. The symphony seems to offer the promise of a better world to come and is surely the perfect work for this first performance by the University Symphony Orchestra since February 2020. This socially-distanced performance will be livestreamed from Bristol's Victoria Rooms and will be available to view for 24 hours.
