A new study led by Professor Anna Murray, with Dr Julia Prague, from the University of Exeter will investigate the genetic basis of menopause symptoms. Using an online focus group, they’ll ask our G0 participants to share their experiences of menopause symptoms and their severity.
These discussions will shape a new questionnaire on menopause, covering both symptom details and practical aspects like length and timing. Responses to this questionnaire will then be combined with our rich genetic and health data to better understand the causes of menopause symptoms and potential treatments.
All G0 mothers will be asked to take part in the questionnaire in the future, meaning everyone will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences. The responses we receive will help fill the gap in menopause research and improve our understanding of the causes of menopause symptoms.
Anna Murray, Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Exeter, said: “We’re looking forward to speaking with Children of the 90s participants about their experiences of the menopause. These conversations will help us shape a questionnaire that captures data on a much larger scale, creating a vital resource for researchers studying women’s health.
“With decades of questionnaire data, alongside genetic information, the Children of the 90s study is uniquely placed to help us unpick these patterns and, ultimately, make menopause treatment better.”
