One of the critical areas we are developing is our work with teachers and careers advisers in schools, colleges and other educational organisations. We appreciate the vital role that these colleagues play in advising students about their options in higher education and we are keen to do all we can to support them in this process. With the changing landscape of higher education it is vital that there are closer working relationships between higher education, institutions and schools and colleges.
We currently have a number of areas where we work with teachers and careers advisers, but this is by no means an exhaustive list. We would really value your feedback on what additional measures we could take to support you in the future. If you have any suggestions, please email us at schools-colleges-liaison@bristol.ac.uk.
This event is designed to keep colleagues up to date with developments at the University. It provides HE advisers with an opportunity to meet with admissions tutors at the University to discuss issues such as the admissions process and UCAS applications, and to gather information relating to their area of academic study. There is also the opportunity to find out about other key issues relating to HE, including student finance and career prospects for graduates from the University of Bristol, and specific advice is available for those colleagues who work with mature students or students with disabilities.
The University's open days are an excellent opportunity for both students and staff in schools and colleges to visit the University and find out more about our range of courses and the University as a whole. Many of the information sessions run on open days are tailored specifically to the needs of teachers and careers advisers, and there are opportunities to ask questions of admissions tutors and senior University personnel. More information is available on our open days site. If you are unable to make one of our undergraduate open days, please visit the tours and visits web page for alternative opportunities for you and your students to visit.
Our staff are available to run sessions in schools and colleges for teachers and careers advisers as well as students. These sessions focus on topics such as writing UCAS references, supporting students through the UCAS application process or any other aspect of higher education. These sessions can be run in the evening or during INSET. If your school or college is interested in booking such a session, please contact schools-colleges-liaison@bristol.ac.uk.
The University of Bristol is extremely active in regional events for careers advisers and teachers. These events, organised through local Connexions services, are an excellent opportunity for colleagues to share good practice and meet with representatives from local higher education institutions. These events are well attended by universities as part of the Higher Education Liaison Offers Association and the University of Bristol is an active participant in these events. If you would like more information, please contact schools-colleges-liaison@bristol.ac.uk or telephone (0117) 928 8623.
