Workshops on studying with a disability
We run a selection of workshops to help you whilst at university.
Am I dyslexic?
If you think you have dyslexia, book on to this workshop to find out about:
- dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, such as dyspraxia
- how dyslexia can affect your studies
- how to get an assessment for dyslexia
- how to check if you could get funding to pay for an assessment
- the benefits of having dyslexia identified
- the study support available for students with dyslexia.

Applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)
If you have a disability or medical condition, then you might be able to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).
This workshop will explain what the DSA is, how to apply, and what support you might receive through it.

Assistive technology (AT): Mindmapping
All students with disabilities who have access to online mindmaps are invited to these workshops to learn how to apply the use of the software effectively in their studies.
Mindmapping: Planning and writing an essay
Learn how to use a mindmap through the stages of writing an essay, from the original plan to writing key sections and exporting to a finished document. Bring an essay title.
Mindmapping: Collating research
Learn how to systematically use electronic mindmaps to collate readings ready for project/written assignment work. Bring an idea to research.
Assistive technology (AT) for international students
These sessions are for international students with disabilities to find out what assistive technology is available to support their learning.

Careers Service
Careers Service workshops are tailored for disabled and neurodivergent students. If you are a current student or graduated from the University within the last 3 years, you are welcome to join.

Careers Service support
Disabled and neurodivergent students, as well as recent graduates can access a range of support:
- Access one to one guidance appointments tailored to your needs, talk to the Careers Service on Live Chat or visit 5 Tyndall Avenue to book.
- Resource: Support for disabled and neurodivergent students.
- Adjustments in recruitment and the workplace: your rights (On-demand video)
- Support for under represented students: learn about Careers Service support, including Bristol Mentors, and advice to help you prepare for the future.
- Register with EmployAbility to get advice about adjustments when applying for jobs and help to talk to employers about what you need. Email them at info@employ-ability.org.uk once you have registered to start the conversation. Learn more about EmployAbility at the Careers service blog.
Group study skills
These weekly online sessions are facilitated by a qualified study skills tutor who will help you to:
- improve your existing academic skills
- refine your notetaking
- help with structuring your writing assignments
- boost your revision technique.
These sessions may be helpful to you if you have, or think you may have:
- dyslexia
- ADHD
- autism
- mental health conditions
- or other conditions.
