MA in Chinese-English Translation

The MA Chinese-English Translation is a one year, on-site translation programme designed for Chinese students who come from overseas (e.g. China, Taiwan, Hong Kong) seeking to develop a range of skills:

  • translation skills
  • competency in English language and culture
  • information technology and communication skills

The Chinese-English Translation MA programme develops an understanding of the nature and function of translation in a global context, and guides its students in how to play a leading role in that context.

Students will learn how practice can be informed by theory. On this degree you will learn how to sharpen your language skills and use state-of-the-art information technology to produce high-quality translation of the highest quality. You will have the opportunity to explore fast-changing areas of translation activity such as subtitling. You will also be supported to develop your ability to specialise as a translator - an important skill for today's translator.

As an overseas student you will come to the UK not only to learn advanced translation skills from and into Chinese but also to develop your English language skills and your knowledge of UK culture first-hand. The Faculty’s Advanced English units are designed with these needs in mind.
