The University will support activities proposed by its researchers that fall within the specified research priorities listed below. These activities should lead to outputs and impacts that last beyond this initial investment, and must include an element of multi-institutional working and community building.
The EPSRC are providing institutional sponsorship for scoping, collaboration and brokerage activities that will help the research community realise opportunities that have emerged in light of recent investments in science announced or planned by Government, and also as a result of input to date from key stakeholders to the EPSRC's next delivery plan.
Funding through this open call must be used to support the following research priorities:
Applications to any of the above themes are permissible. However Advanced Materials, Urban Living and Big Data will be prioritised as Technology Touching Life and Robotics are being supported through other activities. Please note funds have already been allocated for collaborative work with the proposed UK Collaboratorium on Infrastructure and Cities. Therefore this should not be the primary focus of activities under the Urban Living theme of this open call.
The panel are particularly interested in GW4 interactions and will endeavour to seek a balance of funding between Science and Engineering.
Funding available
A total of £160,000 is available through this call. It is expected that applications will be between £10,000 - £40,000 that around 5-6 awards will be made in total.
Applicants will complete a 1 page application and CV.
Heads of Schools in Science and Engineering must approve applications from their schools. This will be confirmed via the application form, which includes an signatory section for Heads of Schools to complete prior to submission.
