QET Labs hosts 250 attendees at annual conference BQIT:22

BQIT:22 in-person attendees enjoy the sunshine outside our event venue at the SS Great Britain.

This year's EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) panel focused on "How institutions can help fight pandemic burnout and imposter syndrome".

Two dedicated sessions saw 55 posters presented both online and in-person.

Press release issued: 29 April 2022

From 25-28 April 2022, QET Labs welcomed 250 colleagues to the annual BQIT:22 (Bristol Quantum Information Technologies) workshop. 55 posters were presented, along with 41 speakers and panellists giving talks across a wide range of quantum tech.

Over the nine years the BQIT workshop has been running, we have seen a large acceleration in this transition from experimental testing to commercialisation, and the pace only seems to be picking up. The applications currently being commercialised are for computing and simulations, communications and cryptography and metrology, sensing and imaging. A strong aim of the BQIT workshop is to grow the relationship between academia and industry so that new innovations can be translated from the lab and into the world where they can benefit society.

This year was the first time in our workshop's history that we ran as a hybrid event. The global circumstances that continue to impact us all professionally and personally forced BQIT to be delivered as an all-virtual workshop in 2020 and 2021. This year we were delighted to welcome attendees back to Bristol both in person and virtually, with 150 attendees joining us in-person at the SS Great Britain in Bristol, and 100 more attending online.

This year's programme included the presentation of 55 posters, along with 41 speakers and panellists giving talks across a wide range of quantum tech. This year's EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) panel focused on "How institutions can help fight pandemic burnout and imposter syndrome", and our 20 sponsors exhibited both in-person and online.

We wish to extend a huge thank you to those of you who attended BQIT:22. It was a pleasure to welcome you to our workshop this year, and we really hope you enjoyed your time with us. A special thank you to the BQIT board for all of their hard work over the year, in particular the tech team (Molly Thomas, Jorge Monroy Ruz, Owain Strassburg and Giulia Rubino) for making it possible for us to run our first ever hybrid event. Finally a massive thank you to our sponsors, who allow us to continue to run BQIT each year and help make the event a success.

Videos of all of our talks will be available soon on the QET Labs YouTube channel, and photos from the event will be available on the BQIT website.

We look forward to seeing you again at BQIT:23, the tenth anniversary of our annual conference, taking place Spring 2023. For further information on this, and future, BQIT workshops, you can visit the BQIT website here.
