King James Bible: Dead or Alive?

The lecture took place on Monday 14 November 2011.

Admirers of the King James Bible usually emphasise its status as a literary classic from the age of Shakespeare. But the constituency for the Bible “designed to be read as literature” is admittedly very small. Most of those who use and value the Bible, including the major, read it not as literary but as religious text, and opt for modern translation, as being both more accurate and more accessible. This lecture examines these issues, and the cultural and religious dilemmas they pose.
