In conversation with Dr David Nicholls

A University of Bristol alumni and honorary graduate, David returned to the City in September for Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival.

Author and screenwriter Dr David Nicholls joined us in conversation to talk about his work, alongside a selection of his own favourite films, and will discuss why they warrant his special attention.

The event was hosted by Simon Perry.


A renowned novelist and screenwriter, David has adapted many of his own books for the big screen; including Starter for Ten and One Day. Other scripts include the 2014 Film adaptation of Far From the Madding crowd, and Great Expectations which starred Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter. His most recent screenplay was for the BBC1 drama, The 7.39 and his most recent novel, Us, is currently being adapted for TV.
