All eligible graduands will be given the opportunity to attend a degree ceremony:
Taught postgraduate students: Please complete the online Attendance Form which can be found at studentinfo, unless you have been sent a manual form.
All other students: Please complete the manual attendance form you were sent.
Graduands can choose to attend the ceremony, receive their degree in absentia, or defer to the February 2013 Congregation.
All confirmation of attendance forms must be completed and received by Wednesday 21 December 2011. Failure to do so will result in your degree being awarded ‘in absentia’ (ie in your absence).
In absentia
Should you reply stating that you wish your degree to be awarded in absentia, we will confer the degree at the February ceremonies and your certificate will be posted to your registered home address, after the Congregation. Please note you will not then be permitted to attend a future ceremony for this degree.
Deferment
Should you reply requesting deferment, you will be notified as to whether your request can be met once your form has been processed. If successful, you will be automatically assigned to a ceremony in February 2013. Please be aware that you will not receive your certificate until your degree has been conferred and you will only be allowed to defer once.

If you attend a ceremony to receive your award you must wear the regulation gown and hood. Please note that you are not required to order a cap for the ceremony, unless you are being awarded a Higher Doctorate ie DEng, DLitt, DMus, DSc and LLD. Clothes should be suitable for the occasion, ie a dark suit, tie and black shoes for men, and a dark skirt/trousers with a white blouse (a safety pin is a useful accessory for keeping your hood in place) and black shoes for women. You will need to order your gown online at Ede & Ravenscroft
Graduand and guest tickets for your ceremony and tea party will be available to collect on the day of your ceremony, from the Refectory, The Hawthorns (entrance via Woodland Road), at the following times:
Morning ceremonies from 8.30am
Afternoon ceremonies from 11.00am
All graduands are guaranteed two guest tickets (as well as their own graduand ticket). In the unlikely event that there are any spare tickets for the ceremony at the Great Hall, Wills Memorial Building, they will be allocated on the day only at the appropriate collection points, at the above times. This will be on a strictly first-come first-served basis and at a maximum of two extra tickets per graduand. Regrettably, we are unable to provide extra guest tickets for the tea party.
Please note that we will not be able to allocate tickets for your ceremony outside your specific time slot.
If you are attending the congregation you are invited, with your two guests, to attend a graduation tea party. as follows:
Victoria Rooms, Queen's Road
3.00 pm - 5.30 pm
Candidates graduating in the morning ceremony might wish to aim for early arrival as it will become more crowded once the afternoon ceremony has finished.
Entry is by ticket only
Please note that there is no parking available for visitors on the university precinct. For information on car parking in Bristol please visit the Bristol City Council website.
A map of the University precinct is available. The Wills Memorial Building is no. 26, the Refectory is no. 44 and the Victoria Rooms is no. 81
