With approximately 26,000 universities across the globe, this puts Bristol in the top one per cent of universities in the world.
The QS system ranks the world's top universities with an overall position as well as subject rankings and is considered to be the most rigorous of its type.
The expert opinion of 75,015 academics and 40,455 employers contributed to the 2018 edition of the rankings, in addition to the analysis of 12.3 million papers and 75.1 million citations to measure the impact of the research produced by the universities ranked.
Professor Hugh Brady, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bristol, said: "Bristol is renowned for its academic excellence and we are delighted to be ranked within the top one per cent of universities in the world.
"Our reputation among employers is once again shown to be very strong, which is testament to our teaching and to our exceptional students.
"Through the delivery of our ambitious new strategy, we are building on our existing reputation to cement our position as one of the world's leading research-intensive universities."
Earlier in the year, the University of Bristol climbed seven places in the Complete University Guide 2018 and 11 places in the Guardian University Guide 2018.
