Community engagement

Reaching out

We take our role in the local community seriously. This includes working with education charities, community groups and taking part in public events.

  • IntoUniversity‌
IntoUniversity provides local learning centres where young people from disadvantaged postcode areas are inspired to achieve. The Law School provides interactive law sessions for year 8 and year 6 pupils. In 2014 79% of IntoUniversity students progressed to university.
  • In the community‌
Staff from the Law School regularly take part in public events locally and nationally. Initiatives such as Festival of Ideas, Twilight Talks, and Pint of Science, provide a social setting for debate about law and our work within it.
  • Girls Making History‌
Girls Making History is a project led by Knowle West Media Centre to encourage girls to embrace technology. As part of a University collaboration, it worked with young women with direct experience of violent relationships, to develop digital prototypes to support others at risk. The Law School supported the project with an interactive session on legal responses to domestic violence.
  • Mature students‌
There are many reasons why not everyone is able to access further education when leaving school. We believe mature students have much to give to the School bringing a wealth of experience and insight into the impact of law on real lives.
I loved debating, hearing other people’s views and challenging what people said... Going to Bristol University made me much more determined to succeed.
