Faiza Abdirashid Mohamed - MSc Public Policy

Faiza Abdirashid MohamedOnce I was selected as a Chevening scholar, I started applying and searching for universities, aiming at one of the best schools in UK in which I can learn from Public Policy. From the internet and university ranking websites, I realised that the University of Bristol is 2nd leading university in the Public Policy course in the UK and this is how I found the university. I applied, and surprisingly, I got the offer within few weeks. I can say that University of Bristol has one of the most effective admission departments, as I was getting a quick feedback to all of my queries.

I have enjoyed living in Bristol, the city has nice sites for viewing, including the harbourside, Cabot Tower, Wills Memorial Building and the Clifton Suspension Bridge, as well it has great shopping malls at the centre of the city, which is very close to the university, and also there are shops, restaurants and cafés that are close to the university.  I can honestly say “everything is within walking distance” from the university. What I most enjoyed is the view of the historic and cultural views of the city and the university, and I am sure the memories of this city will be part of my life.

What I have enjoyed the most is that the theoretical approaches of the course, inspiration of the professors, coupled with the unit seminars, which gave me the opportunity to discuss, elaborate and share my ideas with students of different backgrounds and experiences, I have learnt a lot, and grasped ideas of the modern world policy context. The two semester courses I have taken so far improved my intellectual energy and thinking in respect to policy making, implementation and analysis of policy issues, and I hope the acquired skills will contribute to my future career, as I look forward to it.

I was a humanitarian worker for the past 7 years, and worked with the UN and other international organizations, and this MSc course is now shaping my future career. With the achievement and acquisition of the MSc Public Policy, and taking the course as a real asset for fulfilling my future, I will use the transferrable skills I have gained on this course, as I am planning on joining the public sector, so that I get the opportunity to share these great skills and to contribute to the social policy sector enhancement of the my country, as it recovers from 2 decades of civil war.
