Title: The HDR-UK South West Better Care Partnership

Abstract: During March, we made a successful application to establish an HDR-UK Better Care Partnership in the South West. a partnership between the universities of Bristol, Exeter and Bath and regional NHS providers. The research will be based on the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Systemwide Dataset, which for the first time links primary and secondary care data for our population of around 1 million people. I’ll describe the proposed research projects, and how they are evolving to address COVID-19 and its profound impact on the health and care system. I’ll also describe national initiatives to answer questions of importance to management of COVID-19 using routinely collected data.

Biography: Jonathan Sterne is Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology in the Department of Population Health Sciences, Deputy Director of the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), and Director of the HDR UK South West Better Care Partnership. He has a longstanding interest in using health care data to understand patients’ prognosis and the effects of interventions.
