Title: Childhood Stunting and the Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract: The point being that stunting is likely the best indicator to judge how fair a society is, whether or not it is making progress. I will focus on the prevalence of stunting among young children as a key indicator for child health and development, and for assessing how fairly societies look after their own children.

Biography: Cesar Victora is Emeritus Professor of Epidemiology at the Federal University of Pelotas in Brazil, where he leads the International Center for Equity in Health. Since the 1980’s, he conducted research in maternal and child health and nutrition, birth cohort studies, inequalities in health, and on the evaluation of major health programs in many countries. . He was President of the International Epidemiological Association (2011-14), and won the Canada Gairdner Global Health Award in 2017.
