Seagull/Faoileán translation series

This is a joint publishing venture by HiPLA (Department of Hispanic, Portuguese & Latin American Studies) and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, National University of Ireland at Maynooth, devoted to translations of works by lusophone writers.

  • Onésimo T. Almeida, Tales from the Tenth Island (introduction and translation by David Brookshaw). Tales of Portuguese immigrant life in New England.
  • Fernando Monteiro de Castro Soromenho, Dying Land (introduction and translation by Annella McDermott, preface by Phyllis Peres). A classic novel of Angolan literature, set in the interior of the country during the 1930s.
  • Óscar Ribas, Echoes of my Homeland (introduction and translation by Clive Willis). A collection of short stories depicting creole society and culture in and around Luanda, the capital of Angola.
