German Play: "Glaube, Liebe, Hoffnung" by Ödön von Horvath to be performed at Clifton High School on 24 and 25 February 2010. More details to follow.
Bristol's German Department has a high reputation for teaching and research. We attract highly qualified students who study a broadly based but flexible curriculum. At its core is a well-established language teaching programme, but the Bristol Department also covers:
- literary studies from the medieval period to the present day,
- German and Austrian history and politics,
- medieval studies,
- linguistics, and
- cultural studies.
The teaching programme combines an introduction to the key disciplines within German studies, as well as the opportunity to follow an unusually wide range of options geared to personal interests. There is an active students' German Society, which organises regular cultural and social events and visits to German cities, and produces a German play every year.
