What is it?

The Sanctuary Scholarship is now open for 2017 applications.

The aim of the Sanctuary Scholarship is to enhance opportunities for people from asylum seeking and refugee communities, and to aid integration. We recognise that individuals from forced migration backgrounds face additional barriers in accessing higher education and employment.

We are therefore offering scholarships to eligible applicants to promote success in higher education.

Please note that the Sanctuary Scholarship is not open to postgraduate doctoral study applications for 2017 entry.

Upon application you will be considered for one of the following schemes:

  • A full scholarship for those who cannot access student financial support from the UK Government.
  • A partial scholarship for those who can access student financial support from the UK Government.

Scheme One - Full scholarship

The full scholarship will provide the following:

In 2017/18 the living cost award will be £14,553.

An applicant eligible for the full scholarship is likely to be an asylum seeker, or have been granted Limited Leave to Remain in the UK. The full scholarship is also available to dependants of asylum seekers or those with Limited Leave to Remain in the UK. Please note that the length of leave you have remaining will not normally affect your eligibility for the Scheme.

For more information on the full scholarship, please read the terms and conditions.

Scheme Two - Partial scholarship

The partial scholarship is an award towards tuition fees and living costs in each year of study, with the amount awarded being dependent on your level of study (undergraduate or postgraduate taught).

An applicant eligible for the partial scholarship is likely to have been granted refugee status by the UK Government or have been granted Humanitarian Protection (HP) in the UK. The partial scholarship is also available to dependants of those with refugee status or Humanitarian Protection (HP) in the UK.
