Access to Bristol bursary

This bursary is only open to local students who have completed the Access to Bristol scheme.

If you have not completed the Access to Bristol scheme and your residual household income is £42,620 or under, please see the information on the University of Bristol Bursary.

Access to Bristol is an initiative that provides local students with an opportunity to experience life at the University of Bristol, gaining access to its academic expertise and facilities. The scheme is designed as a curriculum enrichment opportunity for students studying A-levels or equivalents and is open to all students in the first or second year of A-level study. 

The Scheme is only open to local students from state schools or colleges (resident in BS or BA postcodes, or within an hour's journey from the University of Bristol) who have completed the Access to Bristol scheme, including Pathways to Law and Pathways to Health Sciences and priority is given to:

  • those with the academic ability to study at the University of Bristol;
  • those who are part of the first generation in their family to go to university;
  • those living in a Low Participation Area (LPA).

Students whose household income is £25,000 or below, who have completed our Access to Bristol scheme and are studying their first degree, may be receive the following financial support during their degree:

  • An Access to Bristol bursary for living costs of £3,750 per year ((no bursary is paid in any year where you are entitled to NHS funding as part of your course).
  • Students receiving the Access to Bristol bursary will also receive a full tuition fee waiver for their first year of study, ie, there will be no tuition fees to pay.
  • In the second and subsequent year of study, you'll receive a the bursary of £3,750, as long as you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. You'll no longer receive the fee waiver.
  • You will be contacted by the Student Funding Office at the start of each academic year to confirm the renewal of your Access to Bristol bursary, subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme.
