Mind and Brain

Theme lead: Professor Laura Mickes

The Mind and Brain theme brings together members of the School to understand a broad range of psychological and neuropsychological processes, including attention, perception, memory, language, decision-making, and the interplays between them. We conduct cutting-edge research grounded in theory and using a wide range of methodologies (e.g., computational, behavioural, neuroscientific). We aim to upkeep existing and create new feedback loops with key end-users (e.g., the NHS, the legal system, educators) to inform our scientific inquiries and to share our findings.

Our vision is for our research to lead to a happier, safer, and more equitable world.

To realise this vision, we aim to: 

Understand the mind and brain better using basic, experimental, and theoretical approaches. 
Conduct applied research to ensure usefulness. 
Use our findings to inform policies and improve healthcare approaches, workplace performance, education methods, and criminal justice practices.
