PhDs and postdoctoral research (postdocs)

We are keen to take on new PhD candidates and usually have PhD Scholarships and PhD Studentships available. We also typically have vacancies for postdoctoral researchers, to work as Research Assistants, Research Associates, and Research Fellows, depending on your experience. Please follow the links to view application details and adverts.

Summer placements in engineering (Research & development or design experience)

Summer work placements are available to 3rd and 4th year UK/EU undergraduate students only. The stipend is typically £2400 (tax free) for 10 weeks' work; the timing is flexible. Projects are usually very practical and you will gain a lot of hands-on experience of research and development in energy-related areas. Previous projects have included electric vehicles, medical sensors, renewable energy conversion, and even endangered animal tracking. Please apply with a full CV with year grades. There is no deadline, however applications are dealt with as they come in, so it is best to apply around March/April/May. If your interests are outside of those of the Energy Management Group, then your application will be forwarded to the most suitable research group.

Part-time work

We currently have companies asking for short studies to be carried out in various fields, including renewable energy and mathematical modelling. If you have some spare time, a degree in a scientific subject, or are close to getting one, and you live close to Bristol, then please email us your CV and transcript.  Hourly pay is £10 - £20 depending on your experience.
