Cosmic Rays and The Arts
RAS200 project website
This station is part of the RAS200: Astronomy and Geophysics through the Traditional Culture of Wales project.
Alongside the scientific research going on, we have been involved in outreach projects in several primary schools across Wales, exposing a new audience to the physical sciences. These projects have been displayed at the Urdd Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s largest touring youth festivals. This brings science to the heart of the Welsh language and cultural celebration.

Cosmic Canvases in Anglesey, 2017
Children from several primary schools in Anglesey worked with artist Catrin Williams and Professor Karen Aplin to produce cosmic ray-themed canvases. Canvases were on display at the performers’ preparation area for the Eisteddfod in Anglesey in 2017. Two of the canvasses are now on display in the Physics Teaching Labs foyer at Oxford University, and one outside the Satellite Lab at Bristol University.
