PhD student Jan Maurycy Uszko has been awarded the Hexcel prize for his 3-month research project.

PhD student Jan Maurycy Uszko has been awarded the prize for the best CoSEM CDT 3-month project, sponsored by Hexcel.

Centre for Doctoral Training in Composites Science, Engineering and Manufacturing (CoSEM CDT) students undertake a 3-month research project after completing 9 months of taught units in their first year, giving them the opportunity to conduct research before embarking on their PhD projects.

Jan won his prize for his 3-month research project “Biomimetic ionic liquid mediated plastic upcycling for the synthesis of functional inorganic materials” supervised by Prof. Simon Hall, Dr. Avinash Patel and Prof. Steve Eichhorn.

Jan said of his prize “I was honoured to be awarded the Hexcel Best Research Project of 2023. My project investigated a new way to make inorganic functional materials opening ways to even more exciting research.”

Dr Alex Baidak, Vice President - R&T Aeromatrix and Adhesives at Hexcel said “Hexcel is delighted to sponsor the prize for the best CoSEM CDT research project at Bristol. Hexcel recognises the key research and training roles played by the University of Bristol. We are pleased to congratulate Jan for his outstanding work and would like to wish him the best for the completion of his PhD project.”
