The Bristol Composites Institute applauds the success of all its recent graduates.

On Tuesday 20 February 2024 PhD and EngD students from the Bristol Composites Institute, including members of the ACCIS CDT and IDC in Composites Manufacture, were conferred their degrees in a ceremony held in the iconic Wills Memorial Building.

The graduates, their families, and BCI staff, then gathered in the atrium of the Bill Brown Design Suite, Queen’s Building, for a special celebratory event.

BCI Co-Directors, Prof. Stephen Hallett and Prof. Ole Thomsen, personally congratulated each of the graduates and presented them with a specially commissioned commemorative Bristol Blue Glass paperweight.

Amongst the graduates was a large contingent of students from the last (2018) entry cohort of the ACCIS CDT. Along with many of their fellow graduates this cohort was impacted significantly by the pandemic and yet somehow managed to coordinate their viva examinations to allow them to attend the same ceremony! Standing together on the roof terrace, where they had first gathered for their induction photo over five years prevoiusly, was an incredibly poignant moment, symbolising not only their academic journey but also their perseverance in the face of adversity. It serves as a reminder of the strength that can be found in unity and support, even during the most trying times.
