The virtual conference, held over two afternoons on 14 and 15 April, attracted over 500 registrations from 38 countries and 265 different organisations. The theme for the symposium was "Looking forward to the next decade in composites automation".
The first afternoon of the symposium began with a welcome and introduction by Professor Kevin Potter and was followed by the first three keynote presentations1, 2, 3.
On the second afternoon Professor Ole Thomsen from the Bristol Composites Institute introduced the final two keynote presentations4, 5. The presentations were followed by a virtual introduction to the National Composites Centre (NCC)6, presented by Giuseppe Dell’Anno.
The symposium was rounded off by a panel discussion7 chaired by Professor Potter.
The video recordings of the ACM5 presentations and the panel discussion can be found on the Bristol Composites Institute's YouTube channel.
"We were very pleased by the number of attendees from so many countries, and with their engagement with the presenters through well-focussed questions. We had very positive feedback from both presenters and attendees and look forward to offering a full conference next year. Events such as this are essential to keep the composites manufacturing community together until the world opens up again", Kevin Potter, Conference Chair and Emeritus Professor of Composite Manufacture, concluded.
ACM5 in 2022
Due the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, the full ACM5 conference, including its peer reviewed technical presentations, had to be put back to 2022.
The call for ACM5 2022 submissions is expected to open in the summer of 2021. Authors of existing submissions will have the opportunity to resubmit, withdraw or revise their submissions.
ACM5 2022 will once again be hosted at the University of Bristol. Check the ACM5 website for details.
