Summary

Vanessa’s research focuses on the implications for the management of older workers, the availability of training opportunities for older workers and the use of performance management to ‘manage out’ older workers. She has also undertaken extensive research into unemployment and redundancy, including into those Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and individuals with multiple and complex barriers to employment. She has previously undertaken research funded by the European Commission, the UK Government’s Equality Office, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, and the Government Equality Office. Currently, she is working on an ESRC IAA project on Tackling the Menopause Taboo in the Workplace, and leading an Independent Social Research Foundation small group project on Reconceptualising Underemployment. 

Biography

Vanessa is a graduate of Brunel University (BSc), University of Keele (MPhil) and University of Birmingham (PhD). Before joining the University of Bristol in June 2017, she worked at the University of Leicester.
