New BSc Marketing for 2019
18 June 2018
Aspiring marketers can now take their first steps towards a career in marketing thanks to our exciting and dynamic new BSc Marketing, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new BSc Marketing, with our first cohort joining us in September 2019. This exciting and unique programme has been developed with input from both marketing professionals and world-leading researchers combining the academic excellence of a Bristol degree with real-world application.
Students will be encouraged to think critically about the role marketing plays in both business and the wider society, addressing some of the big issues of the day such as the role of advertising in gambling addiction, the ethics of marketing to children and the recent controversy over the alleged use of personal information by data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.
Professional skills development will also be embedded throughout the degree, providing students with plenty of opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-life environment. Students could for example carry out a consultancy project for a local employer or write a marketing plan for their own business idea or a local social enterprise.
We are especially proud that the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has recognised and approved our BSc Marketing for CIM Graduate Gateway status. CIM is the leading professional body for marketers worldwide and their professional qualifications are recognised by employers all over the world. Our students will be eligible for exemptions from both the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing and CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing.
Dr Jenny Lloyd programme Director for the new BSc Marketing commented:
"We are so excited about the launch of our new BSc Marketing programme. Working in consultation with a range of stakeholders from both inside and outside of the University, we believe we have produced a coherent programme of study that not only reflects the impressive academic culture of the University but reflects the practices and challenges posed by the contemporary marketing environment. We believe that this programme offers an exciting option for prospective students who are looking for a course that will not only prepare them for a career in marketing but will also instil deep critical thinking around tackling the enormous contemporary issues at the interface of society and business such as the ethics of programmatic advertising and Big Data analysis. We look forward to welcoming our first students to the university in September 2019”
