In Year 1, Joint and Single Honours students take Performance Forms and Analysis and Film and Television Forms and Analysis. These units form the basic building blocks that students require in order to approach and understand performance, film and television. They are structured as lecture/seminar units, plus screenings and are designed for large group teaching. These units are open to students from across the university.
Mandatory units are complemented by a range of optional units designed to offer the necessary flexibility for Joint Honours students. 10-credit optional units allow you to mix practical performance and film skills plus close analysis skills within a traditional tutorial setting. The 10-credit units provide flexibility for both Single and Joint Hons students. In Year 1, Joint and Single Honours students may replace up to 2 of the 10-credit optional units with open units offered across the University.
The final two optional units are for Single Honours students only. Staging the Text and Filmmaking through Hitchcock, are practice-based project units that result in either a single full performance or film, or in a series of exercises. These give you the opportunity to implement and develop the critical themes and practical skills that you encounter in the curriculum.
A mix of assessment events across all units are closely tied to learning aims and outcomes and include traditional essays, close written analysis, seminar presentation, performance and film practice, critical analysis, production attachments to practical projects, online discussion and workfiles (containing evidence to demonstrate your contribution to workshops / practical exercises; contribution to seminars; contribution to production preparation; contribution to production execution).
