DISABILITY SERVICES

Provision for international disabled students

The University of Bristol welcomes applications from disabled people. You are encouraged to disclose your disability at application stage to enable us to help you identify your support needs and ensure you receive appropriate information and advice on how your needs may be met.

What the University can provide:

  • Information and advice from expert staff in Disability Services
  • Alternative examination arrangements where possible 
  • A Disability Support Team to provide information and advice on library services
  • An Assistive Technology Room in the Arts and Social Sciences Library
  • Extended library loans
  • Texthelp Read & Write Standard and Inspiration Mind-Mapping software  installed on all branch library PCs, all computing centre public PCs, and halls of residence PCs
  • Short-term loan of equipment, such as laptops, digital recorders and radio aids (subject to availability)
  • Accessible curricula and assessment where possible
  • Accessible accommodation where available
  • Information in alternative formats where appropriate
  • Support from Departmental Disability Representatives

As disabled international students are not eligible for UK government funding, you, or your sponsors, may be responsible for paying for any additional support required but not listed above.

You are invited to contact Disability Services before you submit your application to study at Bristol.  You will be sent a questionnaire which will enable us to identify your potential needs and outline any costs you may incur.  This will help you to make an informed decision on making an application.  You are required to establish what funding your home country can provide towards any support costs arising during your studies in the UK.  You should bring with you a specialist’s report or other medical evidence, written in English, identifying your disability.
