Professor Paul Bates has been appointed as the new Director of the Cabot Institute, a multidisciplinary research institute at the University of Bristol focusing on all aspects of global environmental change.

New AXA Chair

We are pleased to announce that Professor Kathy Cashman from the University of Oregon has been awarded a prestigious Research Chair by AXA, the international insurance company. The award, valued at over €600k, will bring Kathy to Bristol for a period of three years to work on a project entitled: "Understanding and Mitigating Volcanic Catastrophes". The project will involve interaction and collaboration with the Department of Earth Sciences and BRISK.
