Title
Spectacular defences: a colourful synthesis of deimatic behaviour
Abstract
Deimatic behaviours (sometimes known as startle behaviours), are observed across taxonomic groups, often to spectacular and colourful effect. However, many of the causes and impacts of these extraordinary behaviours are not fully understood. This talk will discuss evidence for the survival value of deimatic behaviour, with a focus on how predator experience may affect its protective value. This talk will then go on to present how we created a collaborative synthesis to develop a new working hypothesis for deimatic behaviour.
