Patent and technology reviews
There are a number of reasons why you might require a review of the science and technology in a particular area.
For example, your company is exploring a new opportunity through the purchase of the ipr from a sole trader; that is research and development by acquisition. Although the ownership of the ipr is clear, the legalities fully explored, and the market potential high, does this complete the story? Far too often the quality of what is acquired is overlooked; is the technology new and if it is, is it any good or just mediocre? Can something similar be acquired by a different and potentially less costly route or is it an outstanding example?
As another example perhaps you need an independent review of a field, one that is developing new and potentially competitive products. Will these lead to a paradigm shift in the market or could technologies coexist and be synergistic? Is there something the new technology and science can deliver that your product cannot? Should you invest in this area? The BCC can help by providing a review. This is an assessment of what new scientific developments are available, the quality of these, what they can practically deliver and place this in context with your application. This will not answer all the questions, but this does provide the 'missing link' in the quality assessment of new products or new opportunities.
